Mr. James H. Muir has over 25 years of management and consulting experience. Mr. Muir has a solid background of transportation and warehousing knowledge gained through academic, managerial, and consulting experience. He has worked with over thirty consumer and industrial goods companies, identifying and implementing productivity and service improvements while effecting cost reductions. In addition to his consulting experience Mr. Muir has held management positions with General Electric Company, Ryder Truck Rental, Freuhauf Corporation and Texaco Incorporated.
Mr. Muir is an active member of the Council of Logistics Management (CSCMP) where he is a Past President of its Eastern Michigan Roundtable.
He earned an MBA from Case Western Reserve University and a BA in business from Michigan State University.
Mr. Muir’s consulting experience has ranged from industrial products to health care, from milk to gun powder, from co-operatives to Fortune 50 companies, each resulting in significant cost reductions and improved transportation services.
Some highlights of his consulting experience include: e-commerce: Implemented a 120,000 sq. f t. e-tailer fulfillment facility in 30 days. Transportation Cost Control: Identified cost reduction opportunities that resulted in annual savings exceeding $10 million for a producer of building materials. The assignment required identifying service requirements, developing carrier cost profiles, assisting in freight rate negotiations and preparing a training manual. Transportation Planning: Identified over 100 inter-corporate transportation savings projects worth $5 million annually. Projects included reducing truckload rates, developing inbound and outbound LTL consolidations and obtaining air freight discounts. Used a computer analysis of freight flows to identify opportunities and demonstrate savings potential. Route Delivery Management; Conducted a route delivery audit for a consumer goods distributor. The implementation resulted in operating cost reduction of 23% and increased productivity by 16%. The assignment included work time analysis, management training and rerouting equipment. Rate Negotiations: Conducted LTL and full truckload rate negotiations for a principle health care supplier resulting in a 30% reduction to their actual transportation costs. Warehousing: Conducted numerous facility start-ups.
